I watched Dragon Ball Z, Digimon, Pokemon, Berserk (my favorite) and One Piece. I still follow the ongoing mangas of Berserk and One Piece to this day.

I was one of those crazy kids that went to school and acted like the characters from the anime, not knowing that I would get some cuts and bruises along the way. My childhood animes included pretty much the classics:

    Sailor Moon
    Dragon Ball
    Dragon Ball Z
    Dragon Ball GT
    Pokemon
    Digimon

I have more, but I guess I forgot.

The first anime I've watched is Voltes V. It was so cool seeing five vehicles interconnect to form into one awesome robot. And it has many gadgetry and weapons. Although most weapons hurt enemies but it doesn't damage them hahaha! The story too was great. It had many twists until almost at the few last episodes. And the ending, for me, was unexpected.

When I was a child I liked watching Sailor Moon and Gundam Wing. Sometimes I also watched Pokemon but after a few episodes I found that series rather boring.

Well, Dragon Ball and DBZ were the first two I watched. I think they also showed Cardcaptor Sakura on Toonami so I occasionally watched that as well. Of course, there is Pokemon (never liked the anime, the games are awesome though). Other than that, I remember watching Digimon as well.

Hmmm.... It's got to be Ghost Fighter, Dragon Ball Z, and Pokemon. I even had a dozen of Pikachu stuffed toys before. Wondering where my mom kept them.

The childhood animes for most kids in the USA will always kinda be the same. I first grew up watching Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon, Pokemon, and Digimon. It was only when I got older that I started watching other types of anime.

There’s a lot of anime that I watched during my childhood! Yu Yu Hakusho, Rurouni Kenshin, Rave Master, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, FLCL, Yu-Gi-Oh, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Gundam, Big O, and so much more!
Here’s some things I liked about some of the anime.

    • Yu Yu Hakusho
      • I loved the dynamic between 4 main characters and how they would get stronger and stronger in many situations that were a matter of life and death. Characters like Toguro and Shinobu Sensui really have caught my attention. I liked Shinobu Sensui as one of my top villains because he had 7 personalities that literally made him a one man army.

    • Toguro (the younger one) had a predictable outcome, but definitely a character that Yusuke was really afraid of. I think having that jolt of knowing someone could easily destroy him gave Yusuke the reality check he needed to grow and learn from later episodes.

    • Mukuro was another character I loved despite of her brief introduction and life story. When I try to understand her, especially the pain she went through in her darker presence in the manga, she’s an enduring character. Being able to find a sense of belonging and purpose in life despite being one of the most powerful demons really made her more than just someone wanting to use hatred only to become stronger.

    • Yusuke obviously is another favorite, in fact, it’s really hard not to favorite everyone in this show! He has to deal with two perspectives: human and demon and find some way to stay humble with his growing power with people who were clearly weaker than him. And especially being able to live longer than most, he really evolved during the series mentally.

    • Kurama is a complex character who has been through a lot during his long lifespan. He was instantly labeled as awesome to me, and he was just as perplexing as Sensui’s overall being. Maybe a bit more because he’s lived for hundreds of years. There’s so many layers to him that I wonder who the true Kurama really is.

    • Rave Master
      • The anime was canceled early, but I made sure that I would quickly run home to watch this and Yu Yu Hakusho. It’s pretty predictable, but I loved the characters and at the time, the corny jokes were all the rage for me. Watching it back again, there were a lot of deeper elements to it that I wouldn’t have comprehended as a child.

    • Thankfully the Manga ended in a good direction, and I still need to catch up on it after so many years of going on and off.

    • Cowboy Bebop
      • This show was inspirational to me. I loved how it had lucid dreaming elements to it and other philosophical aspects to it as well. I pondered mostly on Spike’s extreme attachment to Julia, almost as if he was a one-woman kind of guy that just happened to be placed in a reality where things would eventually crumble down. So many aspects to this guy that it’s hard to condense into one post.

    • Trigun
      • This show really went to the extreme on a character who would swear not to kill anyone. It really gave me a perspective on how easy it is for people to kill or injure someone severely, and it’s even harder to have the courage to still endure and face the pain. It wasn’t the classic good guy vs. bad guy, anyone had the capacity to do evil in this show. But when breaking things down a bit more, when people understand the struggles each character went through, it’s reasonable to see why those circumstances shaped who they really are.

    • Pokémon
      • It had its limit before people realized Ash is just going to be immortalized as a 10 year old kid still trying to become the Pokémon master. I used to play a few card matches with others, and absolutely loved Pokémon Colosseum and XD: Gale of Darkness

    • Yu-Gi-Oh!
      • Power of friendship was pretty much this show’s overall motif. I prefer the Japanese dub more than the English Dub. There’s so many parts that were edited out for the English dub mostly due to the programs airing it I guess for a general audience.

    • Rurouni Kenshin
      • Kenshin had a dark history and being able to still be sane, kind to others, and have a smile on his face really made me respect this guy. I guess when a person wants to redeem themselves of their much crueler and dark past, there’s a lot of inner turmoil they’ll have to face again, and sometimes avoiding the past will eventually come back to their perspective again. I loved all the sword moves despite most of them defying laws of physics and all that hahaha.

Wow, guess I got too excited there huh? It's not easy to forget shows that had an impact as a child though.
