Default Freewares saves the day (kinda).

as you guys might have knew or even used softwares or apps like Photoshop,
    Corel Painter
or Painttool SAI (my favourite!), they are good, the only downside
is the 1st two are expensive (and the latest versions are always quite resource hungry)
and SAI is considered a deadware (no development since thelate 2000s).
and of cause, for students, amateurs and enthusists, you don't have the monies to buy the 1st two.

thankfully, there are free (legally) alternatives that you can use to create drawings
and paintings digitally. the only things you need to really spend money on is a computer
or laptop (duh!), pressure-sensitive tablets (double duh!), and lots of energy giving food
and drinks to last you through the long let's-just-sit-here-and-draw/paint-the-whole-day-awaysessions.

some of you might knew or used some of these listed..

    Gimp | download here
The most well known digital art freeware. though in my opinion not well optimize itself for digital painting.

    Gimphoto | download here
a mod to Gimp to make it more friendly to those who already used to Photoshop's UI

    openCanvas 1.1b72 | download here
quite popular freeware for digital painting. Lightweight on your machine's resources.
this is the only version that is full and free.

    deeppaint | download here

    Dogwaffle | download here

    Artweaver | download here

    myPaint | download here
    another lightweight freeware. cultter-free UI.

    Krita | download here
i recommend this one as it's a bit of a mix of Photoshop and Corel Painter.

    Others

Alchemy (might be a deadware since no development for quite a while)
    download here

Pencil (special mention as this program can double up as a short animation program)
    download here
