Cheapest way... use cardboard...
Not so cheap way... use EVA foam...
Expensive way... use Worbla...
Hi all. I would like to know what kind of material use for making cosplay prop like sword, and where can i buy these. Still very new to cosplay, no idea where to find suitable material for prop making.... Will very appreciate for the information
Depending on what you choose to do with the sword anyway.
for photo shooting it can be highly decorative with fragile materials.
for clashing and stage fight usually you would need to make it with tougher materials.
Vanguard sheet + wooden dowel might work for regular zweihander longswords.
for katana the curved blade might be an issue.
Eva foam slightly more expensive but you could withstand impact with it
and also for thicker out-of-proportion big swords
Or stick to the traditional hard wood to make wooden sword
Aluminum and steel generally requires a workshop which you will need arms manufacturing license as well.
Design factors like straight sword, katana, or large blades like buster sword or fanciful designs also play a role in material selection.
Blue foam at Art friend. $10 for a very large piece. Worth the money. I also recommend mixing in a few other kinds of materials such as EVA foam or wood. Any pics of whatever sword you're making?
