For the construction of my shoulder amour, I cut out 6 pieces of vanguard sheet, folded each in half and stuck 3 pieces together for each side using mod podge. To make it bend, i poured mod podge on top of the fold and stuck strips of newspaper on the fold so that it will retain its bend.

I used Folkart's metallic blue sapphire, painted over the shoulder plates, waited for it to dry for 30 minutes and re-painted it. I repeated this process 3 times in total.

I applied Folkart Varnish (Brilliant) to make the plates even shinnier. (Not Gesso !).

Gesso is used to "prime" / prepare craft foam for painting because craft foam is basically a sponge-like material. Without priming, the foam will absorb the colours into the material (like a sponge absorbing water).

Varnish is used to paint a transparent shinny coat over your painted materials.

Because the shoulder plate was long, i stuck both shoulder plates onto a wooden rod bought from Art Friends @ Bras Braseh

Below are some detailed pics of the shoulder plates ^^.

The gold trimming on both the chest amour and shoulder plates were done using craft foam. You can get really cheap craft foam from [email protected] Braseh. Do not buy the ones from Art Friends because they sell it for $1.00 each for an A4 size one.

    Now to the boobies amour!

The boobies amour was a pain in the a$$. I have tried the following methods and they just won't working for me:

    1) Use a bra and attach craft foam to it to form the amour. The bra and craft foam absorbed the acrylic paint differently and the colours did not match at all even though I used the same color for both !

    2) Use paper and form 2 "cones" for the boobies. My mum said that it looked like the pointy Jean Galliano bras madonna wore ~___~

    3) Buy a hollow-back torso mannequin from yahoo auctions and saw the unnecessary parts off. I was afraid the other parts of the torso would crack and the idea was mooted ~__~;;

I was about to give up the idea of cosplaying deedlit until I googled the answer ! And the solution was to use the chest plate worn by fencers ! It looks something like this :

I called up all the available fencing schools in singapore and found the cheapest chest plate for SGD $35 at Fencing Masters. It is located at:

    177 Ubi Avenue 4
    #02-00 Pan Malayan Warehouse
    Singapore 408792
    phone: 6841-7671

The other fencing school at Balmoral plaza was selling it for $70, which was too steep for me

If anyone wants to make their way down to buy the plate, I would strongly suggest going in groups of 3 or more as the school is located in a ulu ulu industrial area XP

Please give the owner a call first before making your way down as they are not opened the whole day ^^; Also enquire if they still have female chest plates because after this tutorial, I anticipate groups of cosplayers raiding their chest plates X D

Below are some detailed pics of my chest amour !

I cut out transparency slides and stuck it onto the amour because I wanted the acrylic paint to be the same for both the chest part and the upper part

You need to pour a thin layer of mod podge over the amour and transparency slide first to "prime" it because its too waxy and the acrylic paint may not be able to stick on it

To make it super-duper shinny, paint a layer of Folkaft varnish over the amour

    I've got one question:

The chest plate, how many sizes do they come in? or is it free size?
