    Default Lovecraft's Elf Ears Tutorial and Boobies Amour Writeup ^^

    Hi ! After receiving many generous compliments from you guys regarding my costume, I am proud that the 9 months of googling, trashing numerous failed prototypes (especially the boobies amour >.<), accepting criticisms from my family and colleagues regarding my elf ears and amour have not gone down the drain !

    My mum was my harshest critics and its all thanks to her comments that I exceeded my own abilities

    Hence, I am compelled to do this write-up / tutorial to document my work ^^ Hope that it will give inspiration to other cosplayers who are disheartened by the lack of materials (Fiber glass) or technical workshops because the materials I use are mainly vanguard sheets and papier mache. Well, except for the amour, but that will be explained shortly ^^

    On to the elf ears tutorials !

    PS:
    My brief sword tutorial can be found here

    1) Draw the elf shape you want on vanguard sheet and cut it out. If you want to make super long elf ears, I would recommend the elf ears width to be the same as your own years

    2) Cut out 4 strips of newspapers with width ~5cm and roll them up. Use masking tap to stick them so that they won't unroll. They will form the ridge and veins of the elf ears ^^

    Take the longest roll and stick it to the lower part of the ear using masking tape. Try to make it confirm to the shape of the ear. You can pinch the the roll of masking tape after you are done if you want to have wrinkles on your veins

    6) The other vein. Don't worry if it looks fugly now coz the strips of newspaper will cover up the fugliness ^^
    Try to smoothen the masking tape as you stick them. I did mine in a hurried manner while watching CSI, so its not smooth

    7) Papier-mache time ! I dislike the normal way of shredding newspaper into small pieces and mixing it. Cut out small pieces of newspaper and stick them around the outer edges of the ears using mod podge. Try to smoothen out any air bubbles which is trapped between the newspaper and the ear

    I was pre-occupied with watching CSI and did not do it for the entire ear ^^;

    8) Cut out a piece of newspaper which has the same shape of the elf ear but smaller in size. Pour mod podge onto the newspaper and glue it to the ear. Try to smoothen out any air bubbles that are trapped in between

    Repeat step 7 and step 8 to paste another layer of newspaper onto the elf ears to harden it.

    9) Color-mixing time ! Mix skintone, white and yellow colors in a palette first. The proportions depend on your skin color. You may need to experiment a few times to get a color which complements your skin color well

    10) The finished ear. This is actually one of the 3 prototypes which I made prior to my final version. I pinched the outer ridge to give it "wrinkles"

    11) Hot-glue the ice-cream sticks to your metal hair-band, 1 on each side. The picture below is actually one of my prototypes which uses a normal hairband. I find it better to use a thin metal hair-band as it won't be that obvious in photos.

    12) To make your ears incline at a slight angle, roll 2 small pieces of jumping clay first. Let it try overnight. After it has dried, hot-glue the jumping clay to each side of the ice-cream sticks. Make sure it is not in the centre of the ice-cream sticks but at the edge
