Anyway I will help alvin explain regarding how you recover from a memory card. When you delete something, more then often it just removes the index. Something like a book erasing part of its content page away. The content is still there just that no where to know where it is. As such you can use software to search and retrieve those "lost" information.

Actually its easy to see what the photographer is shooting by seeing his lens where his pointing. In the case of slr, more then often to get a proper focus, you need focus on the eyes of the subject. If you see a camera aiming somewhere where eyes dont exactly exist, he either has no idea how to take a proper picture is aiming somewhere else. Example if the photographer was to crouch really low to take a picture when your face is like looking to the right, his probably not taking a proper picture of you.

I myself have join quite some event to take pictures. Usually if I walk up to a cosplayer, I will request him or her to pose in way most comfortable for her that brings out her character. I believe the cosplayer should know more about the character then the one behind the lens.

Its sad that such photographer exist and it on general give a bad name and a harder time for people who just want to take some good pictures.

    Scenario.
A Photographer from Japan decides to take a trip to our little Singapore. Hearing of a Cosplay event, he decides to drop by. Without knowing that we aren't really that receptive of such shots, at least not in a long while, he snaps away.

Can we blame him for taking such shots and label him as a HJJ?
Interesting point. Assuming the above scenario takes place, and lets say this photographer commits an action such as shooting from super low angle (i.e upskirt shot), although technically he may not be a HJJ, his behaviour is still on the wrong side...under local laws he may be liable to being charged with committing outrage of modesty. Thus he is still in the wrong, because he did not bother to read up about local laws before coming here. Being a tourist doesn't mean you are automatically immune to a country's laws, you still have to respect and abide by the host country's laws, else pay the consequence.

How do we define Hentai Ji Jis?
Yes, the definition of what constitutes as a "Hentai Ji Ji" must be made clear, perhaps by the TS, else misunderstandings and misinterpration will occur. HJJs do not necessarily have to carry cameras or recording devices, thus it is hoped the notion that a HJJ must be a photographer (as seems to be the case now) can be dispelled. Also, anyone holding a hp with a camera function is not a photographer per se.

From my POV, a 'HJJ' is someone who has a clear intention of committing outrage of modesty. Either thru his actions or by usage of recording devices (cameras, hp cam, videocam etc.) Clear cut cases include (but not restricted to) deliberately filming or peeping upskirts, downblouse, asking the cosplayer to do obscene or sexually suggestive poses, etc.

'Stalking' a cosplayer doesn't automatically mean the person is a 'HJJ' What constitutes as 'stalking' is also open to debate. For e.g, the 'stalker' may just be a harmless fanboy/admirer (or fangirl) of the cosplayer or of the character the cosplayer is portraying, and just wants to follow his/her idol around to take pictures, admire from a distance etc. As long as none of the incidents happen in the paragraph above, I think the person can't be labelled as 'HJJ' Depending on how you view it, 'stalking' could still be seen as a dangerous and obsessive kind of behaviour, and probably best avoided if possible, to prevent potential misunderstandings.

Another suggestion: don't agree to take pictures with random people who approach you -- so they can't use the chance to get touchy-feely while posing.

If you see photogs who aim REAL LOW and weird angles , please , do excuse yourself from the shoot . And if you are approached by any people who claims he's from companies that does modellinng or hosting some events , it's important to note that YOU , the Cosplayer accepts it as your own risk should you decide to attend their "events" or shoots , it's also at your responsibility and risk .If you feel you are being stalked / followed please approach the nearest Cosplayer or event security to escort you away from harm . DO NOT CONFRONT THEM.

DELETED FILES CAN BE RECOVERED WITH SOFTWARE

Image recovery softwares are available and are FREE online. Althought they may not be able to recovery 100%, but some can be 90%.

As for the technical part, maybe some one can explain how this work...
because when you actually del a file its still there just that
the system "imagine" that is and empty place until you overwrite the sector with a new one.

Have to agree that the stalker issue is still debatable.

Most of the stalkers are really harmless as most of them might just be fans. And thus, we can't simply label them as HJJ.

But... like what you said depending on the situation, this stalking behavior can also arouse discomfort too.

So usually it's up to the cosplayer to judge on whether this 'stalker' is making him/her uncomfortable and so the most suggestive solution is not to confront the 'stalker' to avoid any misunderstandings. And sticking together with a group of friends will also be helpful in countering this problem too.

actually smetimes its by pure coincidence tat cosplayers n photographers keep meetin up ... mayb the place is small n such ...
so cosplayers may feel like they r stalked ... normal

i agree with him in the cosplayers thinking ... smetimes being with a group of frens
is the best way to stop this problem .... stalkers tend to stop whn being spotted by a group

I'll have to address the first point since I was doing this alot in cosfest.

Weird angled shots are visually-appealing and can help make a 'normal' looking cosplay look much better. So normal photogs can and will fall under this category with no ill intentions (me included...). >.>

EDIT: not THAT close to a skirt though... there is proper etiquette to follow...

Forceflow> It's common that photogs will like to try new angles ^^ and I agree that there's a certain etiquette for you guys to follow and I believe that so long as you have a clear conscious you'll definitely show the pic to the cosplayer of the high angle shot you took =) Perhaps it can clear the misunderstanding and I guess you can't help it when the cosplayer refuses this angle shot... =/ and it's kinda sad that these wolves dress in sheep clothing had stained the reputations of cosplay photography =x
