tpj.kevin: The noise part does disturb me a lot, especially for doll pictures... I've been keeping my iso to 200 and most of the time using Photoshop to adjust the level.

Kagari: I 've heard the canon's powershot series are not as good as before. At the moment I think I wont be going for a pro-sumer or anything big yet... I really can't carry a heavy and bulky camera around, it's tiring ^^UUU... Also, I do have a old Olympus Ultra Zoom C720 (I hope I remember right) which I passed to Andrew... that's a semi pro-sumer camera... but really never learn how to use it well XD.

Like I've mentioned in another thread, Hiroshi Sugimoto is one of the best photographers in the realm of figurine photography.

While he specialises in shooting wax figures and not resin figures, the attention given to the lighting conditions (often on-site and uncontrollable, e.g Madam Tussaud's Wax Museum ) by him; create beautiful images.

    Check him out here.

Something for everyone here to look forward or aim for.

Photo.net contains a lot of good examples of portrait photography for everyone to learn and glean some ideas from.

(For photographers who've already grasped the basics of portraiture)

Sometimes, when you want to draw the viewer into the eyes and upper facial expressions of a subject, it's worth trying using a zoomed-in/out effect. This should be done in conjunction with a very tight framing that limits the image to upwards of the chin.

Take care of the framing though, make sure that the blurred vignettes do not stray into important details that you may have around the head, for example, earrings, hair trinkets.

Check out Xavier Rey's Regard-Bezier 2007 and more of his b&w portraits here.

(You may acheive this effect through the use of Center Spot Filters. These are made by common filter manufacturers like Hoya, Cokin and Tiffen/Lee (ranked in terms of pricing). They're available at most reputable camera and camera accessories shops.

thanks for the tips and links ^.^~~ it's really nice to see those links.

I'm not sure if anyone have seen this before but it's been around for some time:

I love this so much, there's so much emotion in the photos that show interaction of human & animals.
