    Default Singapore International Photography Festival

The Singapore International Photography Festival is back!
Singapore International Photography Festival (SIPF), is a non-profit biennial festival that strives to provide a platform for Southeast Asian artists to showcase their works alongside their international peers at various venues across Singapore.
SIPF is proud to announce the launch of the 5th edition of the festival this year! This edition of the festival boasts several firsts – works by three renowned photographers exhibiting for the first time in Southeast Asia and a showcase at six MRT stations along the Downtown Line.
Exhibiting their works for the first time in Southeast Asia in separate solo exhibitions, are critically acclaimed photographers: Daido Moriyama, the prolific “father of street photography”, Li Zhensheng, a photojournalist renowned for his photographic records of the Cultural Revolution, and Roger Ballen, whose award-winning works tread the line between fantasy and reality in ‘documentary fiction’.
The festival also showcases artworks by 40 artists from 18 countries in our Open Call Showcase, which will take place, for the first time, at six Downtown Line MRT stations, in partnership with the Land Transport Authority and Moove Media, Alliance Française de Singapour, as well as the National Library Building.
For deeper audience engagement and professional development, the festival has always initiated programmes such as portfolio review, talks, workshops and guided tours.
The 5th Portfolio Review will see over 10 local and international curators, publishers and editors sharing their expertise in the field with photographers seeking feedback on their works. Workshops conducted by artists, Boris Eldagsen and Mariela Sancari, seek to expose budding photographers to a greater variety of ways of exploring the medium of photography. Erik Vroons, editor of the GUP magazine, will also be conducting a workshop for photographers looking to develop a signature in their work. With the extensive reach to the audience in mind, the Magnum Workshop, in collaboration with Magnum Photos, intends to broaden the visual perspective of regional and international photographers.

Default Workshops for Singapore International Photography Festival!

The Singapore International Photography Festival is here! Here are a few highlights from the workshops available at the festival!

    Signature Development with Erik Vroons
Who am I as an artist and what is my work about, exactly? These are fundamental questions in order to arrive at a successful career in photography – regardless of the genre or field of work.
The aim of this workshop is to develop and shape your ‘signature’ as a photographer by awareness of conceptual thinking; how to reflect on and to communicate a work in progress both visually and in written word; building and layering a story by editing.

    5th Portfolio Review
The 5th Portfolio Review aims to bridge the distance between photographers, curators, critics and editors who are based in different continents around the world. Photographers will meet the reviewers of their choice one-on-one for discussion, advice and guidance on their existing works and career development.
Each participant can meet up to five or eight reviewers of their choice over three days. Each individual review session is 20 minutes long. Participants will be selected based on their submitted portfolios.
For the first time in the history of SIPF’s Portfolio Review sessions, one portfolio will be chosen by the panel of reviewers to be presented with the CAPA Prize for Best Portfolio. The winner will be awarded a cash prize of SGD$2,000 and have his/her portfolio featured on CAPA Asia, the best-selling magazine on photo and camera in Japan.
The prize will be presented on 9 October (Sunday), at the final session of the Evening Presentation.

    Magnum Workshop
The Magnum Workshop is an intensive five-day workshop designed to guide and encourage photographers in refining visual narratives in the Magnum tradition of documentary storytelling. The third initiative conceived by Magnum Photos and Singapore International Photography Festival follows on from the successes of the Magnum Mentorship programmes hosted in 2012 and 2014.
Intended for photographers wishing to broaden their visual perspective and push the boundaries of their personal development, the Magnum Workshop will elevate the professional standard of both regional and international photographers, under the guidance of Magnum’s contemporary practitioner, Matt Black.
The workshop culminates in a public showcase and evening projection of participants’ work in DECK’s Courtyard from 15 to 30 October.
