i duno about vocal lessons and i don't listen to oshare so *no comment*

but local classes here all give me the impression that they're pushing for pop vocals, even people covering rock songs end up singing it like taylor swift or something

buy one that you like and feel comfortable playing! lol!
do you know the usual guitar shops? go there recce. or check soft's classifieds for secondhands.

personally i'd avoid "werid" shapes, with horns sticking out here and there and whatnot. can get very gaowei!

(assuming you are right handed, and strum/pluck with right hand)
get a guitar where you can rest your right palm on the body without blocking any strings or pickups, don't repeat the same mistake i made lol. my friend also, for his first bass...now he has trouble playing >.<

don't worry about the cheem stuff (if you went to ask the guys on soft, you'd know what i mean), pick one that you like and feel confident using.

most importantly set aside a decent budget for your amp, i suggest getting an amp that's at least 20w...my starter amp was a 30w, never regretted it! 5-15w amps sound like crap and die fast. they are a waste of money. don't get a "tube" amp, get a "solid state" one (tubes require maintenance)
don't worry about the fancy effects like delay etc, get an amp with a good clean and good overdrive.

If you really have to get a cheap, low-watt amp, go to yamaha and check out the cute mini orange! now it's under $70...when I bought it it was 80+..super light, overdrive is not bad though it's low-watt, very portable

be it amps or guitars...always check where they are made! MIJ/MIA (Japan/America) are often perceived to be the best, but if it's MIC(china) I would stay away from it like melamine milk :X

i am selling my marshall mg30fx and mini orange =X

5min walk from city hall mrt: peninsula hotel, check out the basement
davis, maestro, guitar connection? guitar 77?

city music (between dhoby ghaut and bugis mrt, about 10min walking distance from either station)

bras brasah complex (next to NLB ) in between city hall and bugis mrt:
swee lee **their staff used to be very friendly, but recently they hired a bunch of..."foreign talent" who are very rude to customers you may have better luck at the katong outlet
    blackwood
there's one or two more but cannot remember the name at the moment...they're blatantly obvious anyway

    in the east:
yamaha tampines (if you are buying from any yamaha shop, try and get a friend with membership hehe)
thoh (simei mrt, nearer to pet safari - not inside eastpoint!)
cristofori (bedok point, they have less than 20 different guitars though)
there may be sth in pasir ris but i've not been there for years :x
east coast - swee lee's other branch, basement of katong shopping, the one with a lot of lan shops, temasek/victoria/st pats boys always go there play lan one -.-.
swee lee is in the basement. if you go there, try the apple pies from donna maris! yumyum :3

if you're not sure how to get there exactly, try looking up the shop names on google~

really? the folks at davis are quite helpful...sometimes a bit "dao" especially when they are busy. It's better to go on a weekday morning. (you're on holiday anyway right? 8D)

i really doubt it can beat swee lee's new FT though!
my friend wanted to buy a music stand, and the staff was just playing the drums and speaking in tagalog to his fellow phillipino friends.
    friend: are you busy?
staff dude: yes can't you see i'm doing something?! (in a very rude tone)

Dont get a starter pack the amp sucks, Get a good amp such as a roland cube, Marshall, Orange or the line 6 spider amp.

    Most ppl prefer Marshall.

There are few reasons why one would buy a starter pack.

    1. They want that guitar brand and can't afford those that are not starter pack guitars.

    2. They cant afford to buy the amp and guitar seperately

    3. They do not plan to play the guitar for long.

Why I recommend not getting a starter pack is because if you really get interested in guitar and you want to upgrade, you have to upgrade both your amp and guitar. But if you had gotten a decent amplifier with an entry guitar you will only need to upgrade your guitar.

Finally I believe that most guitar can sound decent on a decent amp, but every guitar will sound crappy on a shitty amp.

but this is just my opinion. Diff ppl have diff preferences so, I can only be a guide and you need not strictly follow what I say.
