Hi, I go to the same teacher too. He is very good, I improved quite a fair bit after going for his lessons. Here's his site but I think he has not updated it for some time.

    Guitar Garage

Good luck on your guitar journey man.

    what's your budget?

i don't know what yamaha's rates are like now, but you should expect classes to be between 120~170 per month at music schools. and every school/teacher has different policies. for example during yamaha's holidays you will have no class and there is no make up class for that. but if your class is on tuesday, and there are 5 tuesdays in the month, you need not pay extra also i think. please correct me if i am wrong

a lot of people say guitar garage is good because he studied in berklee(berkeley? idk how to spell lol), but i've never learned from him so I can't comment. parklane should be a short walk from dhoby mrt.

in the east there are a few music schools that offer electric guitar.
    tampines - yamaha
simei - thoh (i learned from there but stopped)
    bedok - cristofori

surely this is not all, but these are the ones at mrt stations.

also, do you just want to learn to play jrock songs? do you want to learn to read music score, some people find that boring and only want to read tabs. etc. make sure you ask your teacher-to-be about all these before you put down your first payment. they should tell you if they are not able to offer what you want.

I think if you are just starting to learn the basics, you should learn accoustic first before going onto electric. Well, thats just what my teacher says.

He teaches for $80 for 12 sessions, 1 session every week and 1hour per session. So, its rather cheap.

I think my budget is below 150$. Its best if i can just learn jrock songs lol cuz i hate american music, but most importantly is still learning the basics i guess..But i would like to learn stuff like reading music, composing etc.

Haha this! Even if you can't play the complex solos, you can still whack the power chords through the entire song ~_~

I think jrock isn't very popular among most local guitar teachers. They listen to stuff like steve vai, j hendrix, van halen a lot...it will be difficult to find a teacher who doesn't like western music, heads up to you >.<
tell the teacher that you want to play jrock only. They may not know how it sounds like so you gotta play them the mp3.

From what little I've experienced, most electric guitar teachers here don't emphasise on theory. They will draw diagrams, write chords or tabs, and teach you to improvise without going through the traditional "classical music theory" education.

If you want to learn to read notation & learn traditional theory, beyond the basic (A-G and semibreve to semiquaver)
you may have more luck learning a classical instrument like piano/violin. But this is a longer route that requires years of patience.

a bit of google revealed to me you can find them at siglap?

there is bus 10, 14, 12 there...i think 43 or 48 also...used to makan at siglap before cca when i was in secondary school lol

just pick a place and start learning, if you find that the teaching style don't suit you, you can switch teacher/school later. i was very nervous at first too! in the end i just signed up for thoh cos it's nearest to my place haha, although i stopped attending class, i won't say i wasted my time there because i did learn something
