    Default Odex VS Chuang Yi

Mah~~~Ok, I hope you guy can guess why I started this Thread. First a brief idea on the companies.

    Chuang Yi:
    A Manga Publisher In Singapore.
A few year back, many companies like Tong Li and Tokyo Pop were considered the best publishers for Mangas. They had a wide range of titles and obviously the latests volumes.
Back then Chuang Yi was not well established.
Given a couple of years, Chuang Yi improved its services, bringing in more titles and release volumes as fast as possible. In addition, they were the cheapest you can get at most bookstores. This led to the rise of Chuang Yi. To date, Chuang Yi has shipped books overseas for their quality and efficiency is now recognized.
Its recognition is to the extent of people knowing what is 'Chuang Yi Fair' without even mentioning the word Manga.
They are even doing well even with the existence of scanlations

    Odex:
A very very honest company that contradicts themselves countless amount of times.
They have anger the community by sending out Love letters.
I don't think I need to say any more about this issue.

Mah~~~Given that Chuang Yi was at a low profile state like Odex a year back. Chuang Yi however reached out to its customers and managed to get into good boks of many.
Our Dear Odex however did the exact opposite. They even say the Japanese animation Market would die out here.
Mah~~~If that was the case, why didn't the japanese comic market died out many years back.
As far as I am concerned, scanlations online were available, or at least more popular than fansubs a couple of years back. Given that my Uncle back then would download, read, yet still buy. Gah!

Tho I can read scanlations, I always buy manga from chuangyi.. mostly in Chinese. ChuangYi releases far better quality stuff compared to Odex.

I've been to Japan just a few months ago.. and the $5 chinese vols here are as thick, as big as the $4.50 jap vols sold in Japan. So if we're getting same quality material as Japanese people.. I have no complaints.

Maybe the onli problem is slightly late releases? I'm still waiting for english FMA 13.. but other than that I support ChuangYi..

    Odex on the other hand....

At least Chuangyi interacted with their customers, take part in events...
I saw their improvment, they used different quality paper for the covers of some comics... They include small posters for some comics too... and they rarely have translation errors... This shows their QCing is good...
And they do update their website regularly...
Chuangyi still get supported by fans even they raised the price of their comics a few times....
Chuangyi knows now more ppl are english educated and not that good in Chinese, they are now translating more and more comics to english... This shows they knows the market well...

Hmmm.. din know there's a thread on this. So let me cut and paste my comment posted in another post:

When they started publishing local manga version, I supported them cos the price was at a attractive level. But like odex, their quality was terrible.

After a while, I give up on them and stick to Taiwan mangas.

Its been yrs since I bought a ChuangYi manga and going by what I have seen in the library, their product has improved to the extend that its almost comparable to Taiwain release. But I still dun buy ChuangYi.

Why?? Because the price for ChunagYi manga has gone up and Taiwan ones has come down. For roughly $1 more, I can get the better Taiwan release. And I too used to reading the traditional chinese instead of simplified chinese buts that a small matter.

But I agree that Odex can learn a thing or two from ChuangYi. They listened to the fans, engaged them and improve their products. That the way to win fans over which is why they are still doing well after all these yrs.

No lah. I think he means that Odex should learn from ChuangYi by engaging the fans, improving their products and basically give the fans what they want.

I mean if almost none of the anime fans here want English/Chinese dubs why put it in?? OK. Maybe thats a commericial decision becos they want to cater to overseas market. If that the case, they should learn how to differentiate their products better.

Imagine, without the dubs, the extra storage space available can be used for higher bitrate video or additional goodies. Is that not better??

Chuang yi knows that customers will keep on coming back if you maintain a good PR relationships with them and over the years they have been engaging with the anime community by having mangas fairs or even had a booth at the World Book fair if i did not remember wrongly .Their titles of mangas are quite up to date .

Odex on the other side , maybe little no one knows of it's existence ,until they started bombarding people letters of threats of lawsuit and so on , they don't care about PR (Or they even need it ) but only about the money .When was the last time you've seen Odex appearing at animation events or cosplay events in Singapore ? They seem totally a anti social bunch

Chuang Yi is a great company that puts out good quality manga and interacts really nicely with its customers. Its because of this good PR that even my American friends ask me to buy Chuang Yi manga and ship them over to America.

Mah~~~Understanding the customers is the core to success.

"Fate is with you if you choose so."

Guess Odex needs to learn that.

Personally I do not like going for Scanslations because simply put, Manga is meant to be read on my hands as a book and not my right hand click click click click click to zoom in and flip to the next page.

I did read scanslated manga before but now that i started collecting manga, I find myself being glad that Kadokawa's translation is one of the fastest and so is tong li.

Personally I prefer not to buy Chuang yi. I dun buy CY Chinese because I've been reading too much trad chinese, i cant really read simplified chinese anymore. (fyi my chinese sucks) And english manga wise, I'm prefering not to go for english mangas now, but then unless Chuang yi releases something that caught my eye then I'll got for it. As fort now I only collect those series I'm already chasing.
