Default Cosplaying As A Character Of The Opposite Gender

I'm thinking of doing a Cosplay of any males from the death note anime, and I know there are plenty of girls going as male characters and vice versa but my question is do you get any negative comments from cosplaying as an opposite gender? Or do you think it's strange or something? Also if you have already Cosplayed a character from the other gender, what's your gender and what was the character?

Do it "properly" like proper makeup, chest binding proper etc, and few will give negative comments.
The only people whom I read give negative comments are usually Non-Cosplayers and fans who are into Boobs and Less Clothes on the Cosplayers.

And so many people are doing it nowaday for Cosplaying so why the need to feel "strange"?

I've cosplayed as a male character before at anime conventions. Don't worry, most people don't mind girls cosplaying as boys. Like someone said above, do it properly and you'll be fine. No one will think you're "weird".

I think it's pretty normal. I used to work in the Drama department at my school helping with setting up stage and trying to work with make up. I must admit I wasn't the best, but I loved helping when I could and learning just about anything. However, we did pick up that the idea of "crossplay" began well before conventions started. It's actually more normal than people realize. Women weren't allowed on stage and it was considered disrespectful for there to be a female actor.

As for my personal experience, I haven't been able to comfortably crossplay though I have considered it. I have a large bust and I attempted a compression shirt that my partner had. Unfortunately, I didn't react well to it but that was me personally. My partner has no trouble slipping in and out of hers.

I do remember one time my friends and I had decided to go to a convention as the Sailor Scouts. At first there wasn't an issue until my friend had to use the restroom because, you see, my friend is male. He was very comfortable in his skin and walked like a master in his boots. Honestly, he made a beautiful Sailor Pluto. But when he tried to use the men's restroom he got yelled at. When he went into the women's, some girls yelled at him. It actually turned into all of us girls escorting him right into the women's restroom and standing like a circular ring.

Crossplay is becoming more accepted now a days, thankfully. But it still seems like some people have more trouble accepting a male crossplaying as a female character.

Er... I personally only do crossplaying for my cosplays. Usually people will think it's disgusting or so, but, if you have the real desire to do crossplay, you would not bother about what other people comment on crossplaying. But, like someone commented, your makeup and such must be suitable for doing crossplay. So in conclusion, crossplay is not a weird or uncommon thing now. In fact, it is a good thing cause, it shows that not only you dare to dress differently, you also dare to go to an extend of doing crossplay which shows your passion, desire and courage. So yeah, all the best

Males would definitely need an androgynous body type to cosplay female characters. Otherwise....

THAT IS A PARODY DAMMIT! "

You people NEED to use your Common Sense more and able to see a Parody Cosplay and one where the person is really trying to cosplay the said character thinking he/she is perfect for it.

And STOP using the Sumo Wrestlers dressed as Sailor Moon Characters as an example of CosF*** as they PURPOSELY did it, including the Sketch, to entertained their fans!
