i wanted to make my wig a different colour too! Mine's black now. But i need it to be blue black for Hinata [very dark navy blue]. So I was thinking of hair mascara, but I can't find them! or rather, I did found some, but only have reddish brown, dark brown and black. Not much use to me. I was thinking maybe I just use normal eyelash mascara...but maybe will damage the wig?? I dunno~ any expert out there to help?? Haha. Now i was thinking of the following 4 choices:
    1. Use normal hair spray [might be able to get navy blue but more probably just normal sky blue]
    2. Use blue/dark violet hair mascara [my hope] if I can find them
    3. Use electric blue eyelash mascara
    4. Just leave the wig black

    anyone got any suggestion??

Oops, sorry naaa, kuromi, for posting this here. And oh, there's another choice, I'm not sure if you would want to use it...dye it. There's more information on cosplay.com... the link is: http://forums.cosplay.com/forumdisplay.php?f=62

I was thinking of bleaching it too. Hair bleach or clothes bleach?
I'm afraid the clothes bleach will damage it or turn it white or something...
I'm thinking of trying hair bleach...

As for dying it, i'm not sure lol. A friend of mine told me white/silver spray dye may work. It did for her friends but she hasn't actually tried and tested.

Use hairspray with colour. It will tint the wig if the wig itself is dark.

you *cannot* bleach wigs with hair bleach. unless it is made of human hair.
clothes bleach will damage the wig.

as for dye, same thing, shld not use hair dye on plastic fibres. there is a kind of "wig dye" - search for it on the net. the coloured hairspray is worth a try IF you don't mind the wig getting stained from it afterwards... and possibly a stiff texture. colour mascaras -- you need a lot and the texture would probably be clumpy.

see the cosplay.com forums for the threads. u can use marker ink + alcohol solution to spray to stain the plastic fibre.

edit: forgot to mention, it's *very* difficult to lighten a plastic wig's colour. because even "wig dyes" work by staining it. better to start with a lighter one and colour it darker.

yupz, agree with spelmermaid! Anyway, i got the FW acrylic ink and alcohol. I planning to try out the FW acrylic ink dyeing method this weekend. Will post about it when it's done. Hope it works. Coz I'm using a prussian blue on the black wig. Hope will get the desired result. Coz using this method, will not make the wig stiff, and the colour won't rub off. For those who used hair spray, u know u get those stiff stiff feeling, den the colour oso rub off on your clothes...-.-||| Yar...

and thanks to Luel LeBeau! But I'll PM u if my acrylic ink method fails. ^^ thanks for the offer anyway! (:

Yay, I dyed my wig today. But the process is not yet complete, I have to wait for it to dry before I rinse it. Ok, let me get to details. First, I have a black wig and I want to use it to cosplay as Hinata, so I actually need it to be tinted slightly blue, like blue black. Not really blue, but like in the sun, you'll see a tint of the blue. Hope you are still following.

    Ingredients
Ok, so I bought a bottle of FW Acrylic Ink [it's 29.5ml] for SGD6.05 at Art Friend at Bras Basah. It's prussian blue. Closest I can get to what I want. This acrylic ink comes in 30 colours. And you can mix around. If you want it lighter, add a drop or 2 of white, and if darker, use black. I got a bottle of Isopropyl [something like that...] alcohol [or rubbing alcohol] which is at 70% concentration from Guardian. 120ml for SGD3.20. Oh, get a spray bottle from those budget stores for SGD1.90. Get as big a bottle u can with that money. Yupz. And you will need a lot of newspaper and something to put your wig on, as in to prop it, like a wig block. Also, wear plastic gloves too! Oh, it's fun to have a friend to help you~ My friend came over and we had fun~

    Precautions
Do the dyeing in open space as inhaling too much alcohol will cause brain damage. Hazard to health basically. Also, the ink stains. So put a thick layer of newspaper at the area where you work. If the ink got onto you, wash it immediately [within 30mins] with soap or toothpaste. They will come off easily. DO NOT leave on for too long as it will stain your skin.

    Procedures

After you put your wig on a wig block, or just something prop up your wig, put it on top of a thick layer of newspaper. Then pour as much of the alcohol into the spray bottle as you can. Next, squeeze the ink into the spray bottle. Get the intensity and colour/shade/hue you want, swirl and mix in the alcohol, be sure it's what you want before you spray! I used 8 full squeezes of prussian blue to 100ml of alcohol. It's enough for my wig, which is long, around the mid-back length. And you are ready to spray on your wig! Spray thoroughly. Remember the inside of the wig as well, you won't want your wig colour to be different when the wind blows or something. Haha. Yar... so basically spray and spread around, rub a bit [not too hard or you'll make the wig frizzy] into your wig. Then you leave it to dry! I'm leaving it overnight. Make sure it's thoroughly dried. Then, you run it through with COLD water, until the water is clear. This is to make sure that the excess ink do not rub off on your skin or clothes. The you leave it to dry again. As tested by the person who found this method, she said, if you washed it thoroughly, it will not rub off. But not sure if sweat is going to affect it or not. She hasn't tried it yet. Yar, and don't worry if your wig seems a little darker than what you want before you wash, coz after you wash it, it will be slightly lighter.

I am not sure how it will be like after washing because I'm doing it tomorrow. But so far, I like what I get. At first, as i'm working on a black wig, it seems like the colour is not working. But later, when I see it under the sun, it actually has the tint-effect I want. Although the colour is slightly towards the indigo, meaning it's a little purplish... but still, I like it. And maybe it'll be better when I wash it. Will come back to post when I washed it and dried it~ Wait for my results~ ^________^

    Hope this is of help~!!

ok, I washed the wig already. The first time I saw it this morning, I went, oh my god, I LIKE it! The colour is good. And... after rinsing it, not much dye come out, meaning that the 100ml and 8 squeezes of ink is just enough for the wig to take up the colour. I rinsed it in a basin of water, twice.

Do not worry if the wig hair feels a bit stiff after drying with the ink, coz after you wash it, it'll be fine. Also, the best part is that the wig keeps it's shine/gloss. You know some times, when you damage your hair, the hair looks dry like straws? But the wig still keeps its texture after dying, so this is really good! Oh yar, remember to comb your wig with a wide-teeth comb gently, starting from the end of the wig, den work on the middle section and finally the top. Just gently to untangle any tangles you've made while rinisng it. It's easier to comb the wig and not have hair coming out when it's wet coz water reduces static. So next time you comb your wig, spray a little water on your wig and comb, it helps, I swear. ^____________^

Hope you find this useful! And have fun! ^___________________^

    ~~ Hal

p.s. Since I'm only tint-ing the wig, one round is enough for me. But as according to the founder of this method, she said if you really want it to be coloured fully and nicely, you can do a 2nd round. Just look at the result of the first round, if you like it, leave it; if not, do one more time! (:

yay, good luck to you! But really, if you are doing it on a dark wig, it's very hard to make it light, at most you are tint-ing it. So it's best to work on a light wig and make it dark. The founder said white alone does not dye the wig at all... it only work when you mix with other colours... yar... anyway, good luck ne? ^______________^
