That is a good website Tsukinokaze, though its layout could use a lot more work.

The SAF should be able to handle 28 Days Later type infectees given they are taken down as easily as normal people. Easy to form a line and gun them all down.
Romero or T-virus type zombies would be harder considering its going to take severe spinal damage or a head shot to take them down. Difficulties in gunning them down would affect moral and confuse soldiers as well as commanders.

The capabilities for the nation's army to save the survivors would depend on how quickly the army can act within 24 hours.

Technically, if there's an Outbreak in SG, I say we are pretty much utterly screwed.

The main part of our fighting force...is ourselves, along with perhaps a small % of those current in active duty due to having signed on or full-time NSFs at that time.

There will definitely be delays in the recall due to disbelief in the top-ranks, and when they finally get it into their skull that the suvival of humanity is at stake, it will all be too late. With the majority of us living in highly concentrated HDB areas, the odds of being infected is quite high, especially if the warning has not been sounded to the public. It just takes ONE of the recalled personnel to be infected, and that entire detachment or base can basically be writen off.

Adding on is the fact that there will definitely be a large % who ignores the recall and stays with their love ones, even the 'safely operational' detachments will not be fully manned, which will limit their speed and effectiveness in containing the Outbreak.

if the zombies are l4d type. You can be sure the army is gonna phail. I tink if an outbreak occurs no one will believe it except ppl like us. And we're gonna be the only survivors in the end (those who believe it la). If this was America saving yourself from a zombie apocalypse is so mch easier..

As stated above, Singapore is basically made up of mostly highly concentrated residential sectors, which will just become death traps to anyone who just happen to be immune or managed to stay uninfected. Survival would be extremely difficult if one happens to be stuck within a HDB flat at the time of the Outbreak, or chose to hide there to survive the initial Outbreak.

Furthermore, in SG, firearms are concentrated in a few specific key 'resource points', namely military bases and police stations. Which limits civilian survival/self-defense capabilities to simply makeshift melee weapons... While crowbars are relatively easy to obtain(which is in itself one of the best melee weapon/tool available in the event of an Outbreak), other such melee weapons are less readily available. Hatchets and axes, for example, are good alternative choices, but limited in numbers. What if we have family members and friends along with us? How many of us have 2 or more crowbars at home to cater for everyone?

Even if by some chance your family business just happens to be selling crowbars, and you have enough for everyone...Are you sure everyone is skilled enough with one to land even one zombie kill(in times of absolute need at that, such as when a zombie has pinned you and is attempting to bite you, and your friend has to aim for a 1-hit-kill without splattering you with zombie blood)... Not to mention with the high population concentration, Cilvil Defense shelters are death traps, and as stated before, it only takes ONE idiot who got bitten to think himself immune, to screw up an entire shelter... So where are you going to 'escape to'?

There is no 'Sure-Safe-after-this-finale' as in L4D or zombie movies... How many of us can fly helicopters, anyway?

I would say, given the small size of Singapore, and the fact that majority of us will be able to fortify ourselves within our HDB flats. It shouldn't be too bad. If unable to fortify, despite the density of our population, one difference between a city like New York compared to Singapore, is we are less cluttered and have more running space. The way our void decks are built give a lot more running area compared to American style buildings. And we all know, normal zombies can't run. More area means a lower likelyhood to get surrounded and become zombie nom nom.

The small number of full-time NSF will be enough to extract civillians fortified within their HDB flats and slowly gain force as rescued NSmen would eventually be armed and fighting.

The "disbelief" effect would not affect Singapore as badly as it would affect cities or towns in the USA, again because of our size. Singapore City itself relies on the entire SAF for defence. Compare that to USA, any city's 1st line of defense would be their (generally unreliable) Police and Militia. It would have to go through terrible layers of bueracracy before reaching the Governor's Office, the State Guard and eventually, the Pentagon. For us, Officers within the SAF would become aware of the reality of the issue before long, considering they are not in a different state or city or anything like that.

The difference between America and Singapore, is America is a terrible environment for organised Armed Forces to do something about it, while a better environment for survivors of the initial outbreak to get supplies to do something and escape.

Singapore, is a better environment for Armed Forces to do something about the outbreak, but a terrible environment due to lack of supplies, for initial survivors to get or do what is needed to escape.

I guess this is one aspect we should discuss. How to survive if the government fails.

I think it is a safer bet to consider that the government and military WILL fail to function incase of an Outbreak. While it would definitely be great if proven otherwise in reality, in the event of an Outbreak, all thinking and planning mentalities should be automatically switched to Worst-Case-Scenerio-Will-Happen mode. After all, it's a zombie-outbreak we are talking about.

Thus, all reliance on the possibility of a military rescue should be written off as soon as the public is alerted to the Outbreak.

And now for a simplier, yet core issue:

    Human Waste disposal.

The waterworks will likely stop after a few days, meaning no flushing, no baths, no tapwater, etc etc. With all our collected water during those last few days reserved for drinking purposes(and even then, we cannot really store that much water with the limited amount of buckets we have at home). Bottled water is going to be your last reserves.

It's previously mentioned that holing up in a HDB flat is a good survival plan. Ignoring the obvious supplies and other survival issues for now, how do we plan to dispose of our waste matter? While urine maybe used to extend our survival, how many of us would actually chow down on our own solid waste matter? Keeping them around will just be opening ourselves to other forms of diseases, yet disposing them outside has the obvious risk of having to lower the barricades, and tossing them out of the windows is just going to attract more zombies to the noise.

    Any proposals?
