Default do the Japanese eat dumplings?

A while ago, some Chinese people who I met had some dumplings and gave them to me, and they were delicious! I have wanted to have them since, but it's been like 2 years since I have had them!
Do Japanese people eat dumplings? If so, are they the same as the Chinese ones? Does anyone know how to make them, and does it take a lot of work?

I've had Gyoza and shumai (did I spell it right?) both are dumplings, and both are absolutely delicious I'm not sure how they are made, though.

Hm, both gyozai and shumai looks pretty good, but they are either vegetable or meat filled.
The dumplings I am referring to were not filled with anything, the only ingredient was the bread of the dumpling...so what would that be called in Japan?

I was more wondering about dumplings that aren't filled with any meat or anything...

I don't think I would like takoyaki, because I don't think I will ever eat diced octopus.
